Recently, I went to the Shakespeare and Company book shop. It is a quintessential tourist spot in Paris, but one that I do recommend you see if you are a book lover. I am one. It is a lovely little shop with books floor to ceiling. It is located very close to Norte Dame Cathedral and the Latin Quarter.
The staff is very helpful and will gladly help you find what you are looking for if you ask, they speak both English and French. The books in the shop are both English and French. It is important to note that while this is a fabulous little book shop, it is not the original bookshop where the famous writers, like Hemmingway met. This little shop was started in 1951 by a man called George Whitman and was called Le Minstral. It was later renamed in 1964. It has also become a very important place for writers to meet, just like it’s 1920’s namesake.
The store is still in the Whitman family and is run by George’s daughter Sylvia Whitman.
