Moulin Rouge

My sister in law came for a visit and one of the things that she really wanted to do was to go to the Moulin Rouge.

The show is very popular among tourists, so when we went to book tickets, we did not have a lot of choices.  So, we bought tickets to the 11pm show.  In retrospect, I think it worked out well. I also bought the half bottle of champagne to enjoy as well. I did not care for the champagne. I have had much better. So, if I go again I will probably skip it.

Since we were a table of three, we ended up with an ok spot. We had our own table and we were not directed to share our table with anyone else.  It was really nice.

The view was unobstructed, the people in front of us were a level down and there was a walk way and a rail in-between us and them.  We were located in a corner so it was a bit of a challenge to get to the bathroom.  The bathroom was all the way on the other side near the exit.

The show was interesting.  The costumes were glittery and neat.  Of course, they all showed boob. The dancing was disappointing.  Maybe it was the dancer in my, but I was expecting it to be more professional.  Not everyone was in synch and it really bothered me.  I had obviously expected more.  There were also a few other acts as well. a couple on skates, a ventriloquist, and a woman that swam in a tank with a snake.  The snake apparently did not feel like swimming, he spent more time trying to escape.  The ventriloquist was hilarious and probably my favorite part of the whole night!

When we exited the show, we stopped in the shop for an obligatory souvenir.  Then we headed outside.  We quickly discovered that the metro was not going to be our mode of returning home, so we managed to grab a taxi instead.

It was a fun night and I am definitely glad that I went.  I am not sure if I will go again.  The tickets are quite expensive and in talking to others I definitely have no desire to be part of the dinner performance.  There are many other places in Paris where I would much prefer dinner.  The theater is not a small intimate setting and they produce food for a large number of people at a time.  I would recommend dinner anywhere else.

  1. Aww, I’m sorry you had a rather disappointing time there! I went with my MIL and SIL, both who are dancers (both of them in the past and currently) and we all loved the show. And the dinner was really really good. You’re right though, it is really expensive, definitely only a once in a lifetime thing!
