Today I experienced my first antiques and collectible fair or brocante, The Chatou Fair. It was located on a little island in the Seine called lle de Impressionists. It is organized by SNCAO-GA, which is the most important representative body for the antique trade in France. The brocante runs from 1o-20 of March and offers a variety of items from 700 dealers from all over the country. The website states they receive over 35,000 visitors over the 12 days. The theme this year was ‘indoor/outdoors’ and pays tribute to garden antiques.

I decided to head out to the fair with a friend. We were lucky the sun was shining and the day went well after a few hiccups that involved me getting into the wrong train.

Here are a few of the things that I loved.

We had a lovely day and one thing that is important to remember…. The named price is not the price.  Feel free to ask them for a lower price and if you are not happy, you can always walk away.

Bathrooms are available and food and wine venders are there as well. Fair food in France is a whole new story.  I really enjoyed the chance to walk around and look. At lunch time the venders sit at tables near their booths and enjoy eating their lunches and drinking wine and Champagne.

I loved to antique in the US and I found it very fun to do at the brocante as well. If you would like more information please visit the website here
